  • Embedded Systems software design. C, C++, and assembler. Proficient in accomplishing a great deal in small systems with limited memory and processor capabilities, often with little or no OS available. Processor experience includes Motorola 68xxx and 6502, Intel 8051 through 80386, Dallas 80C320, and PIC Micro-controller chips. New processors learned quickly.

  • Developed software applications for small embedded devices called network interface modules (NIMs), whose function is to accumulate real time data and provide control for various protection, PLC, and metering devices used by the electric utility industry. NIMs are joined by a common network, thus providing SCADA like services from any number of devices in a common format. I personally developed NIM code for over 30 devices with various protocols, and was responsible for the preparation of training materials and instruction for new NIM programmers.

  • Developed various electronic products, in which I solely performed electronic design, PC board layout, and all programming for the device's Micro-controller. Examples include an Intelligent Multi Port Switch (IMPS) for routing serial communications, and a high voltage contact Multiple Change Detect (MCD) counter employing precision debounce logic.

  • Developed Windows based software for convenient support and configuration of NIMs, and various in house devices.

  • Prepared and maintained documentation for all products developed.

  • Software/hardware system design and implementation in such areas as automated electronic troubleshooting, and automated data acquisition.

  • Developed a powerful data acquisition and graphic display system, to directly replace walls of mechanical chart recorders. Custom graphics and client server communications developed independent of the Windows operating system, providing otherwise impossible speed and responsiveness on the systems available at that time.   • Several years of repair and maintenance of mini/mainframe machines as well as PCs and workstations, often to component level. Also maintained dozens of microprocessor based and conventional analog based devices.

  • Network troubleshooting including electronic analysis of transmission media using time domain reflectometer. Also, some experience troubleshooting, programming and setup of Cisco Routers.
